It's that time of year again!

The summer is finally winding down and parents are rejoicing as kids get ready to go back to school. We know you love them, but it's nice to not have them hanging around the house all day right? After an amazing vacation and summer, its time to get the books, backpacks, and pencils out and ready because come September - it's officially back to school season!

<img style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; float: left;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/takeANote.jpg"}}" alt="" width="200" />

Elementary

Any parent knows that it's hard to let your child go on the first day of Kindergarten. Their anxious, you're anxious...Don't worry they will be perfectly fine! Elementary school teachers are some of the best around. Pretty soon they are going to be learning their ABC's and 123's, and running home to tell you all about their day. And it does get easier watching them get on the school bus or walking through the school's front doors...Believe me! Before you know it, they'll be in high school and getting ready to leave for college.

<img style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/keepcalm_VIII.jpg"}}" alt="" width="200" />

College

For most people, college is the time to finally break away and live on your own. What better way to state your independence than to decorate your dorm or apartment exactly the way you want it?! Paint the walls the color you've always dreamed of (make sure it's ok with your college first please) and buy that crazy colored comforter set you have always wanted. Don't forget about art on your walls though! We have everything from bright and colorful, to elegant black and white photographs. Looking to keep calm during the semester? Impress your roommates and new friends with a huge statement piece such as our "Keep Calm and Carry On" artwork that we offer in numerous sizes.

<img style="float: left; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/TravelGrid.jpg"}}" alt="" width="200" />Study Abroad

Most schools and colleges offer a study abroad program. If they offer it... take it! You won't regret it. For one semester you'll be living and going to school in a new place and meeting completely new people. Ride a gondola while you study in Venice, climb the Eiffel Tower after your class in Paris, or visit the sites in London when you get some down time. Some Colleges even offer a student exchange program in which you live with a host family. With this option, you'll be totally engulfed in the life, language and traditions of the country that you are studying in.

Lions, Tigers and Bears Oh My!

What's the one animal that makes you get all fuzzy on the inside or the one that makes you go 'aww' when they do the cutest thing? Is it a Kitten? Fish? Puppy? Zebra? or maybe a giraffe? Here at InGallery we have a plethora of animal paintings and photographs that will turn even the toughest person into a softie.

Puppies!

Common consensus for puppies - absolutely adorable! Can you believe that there are over 150 different breeds in the world? And that's only the number of breeds that are registered with the American Kennel Club. There are hundreds more. Do you have a favorite? We have everything from Dachshunds and Dalmatians to Lab's and Westies. We even have some dressed up in wings and others in hats! No matter what kind of dog it is, they will be your best friend for life. They aren't called man's (and woman's) best friend for nothing!

<img style="float: right; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" title="Powerful I" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/powerfulI.jpg"}}" alt="" width="250" />Big Cats

Not a huge dog and puppy fan? How bout cats? In this case, we're talking about "Big Cats" such as lions, tigers, cheetahs and panthers! They are incredibly beautiful creatures but they definitely have a bite to them. The lion, or "King of the Jungle" as some people say, is truly the King, even though he lives nowhere near a jungle. One roar is all it takes to set the standings in his world.

The Cheetah on the other hand, is the fastest animal on land. Reaching speeds up to 75MPH they are not "royalty", but they would definitely be the champion in a running competition. And we cant forget about the tigers. These majestic beasts are known for their coloring and stripes. Besides their popular orange color, tigers can also come in white (these are commonly called Siberian tigers).

<img style="float: left; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" title="Koi At Play" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/koiatplay.jpg"}}" alt="" />

Fish

Who does'nt love a pet goldfish? They are easy to take care of and they're easy to get along with. As long as they're fed and cleaned, they're happy. Nowadays, more and more people are buying fish and setting up impressive aquariums. It has become quite a hobby for some people, and although the cost can vary, the end result is amazing. Fresh water tanks can hold fish such as Koi, while saltwater tanks can be home to yellow tang, starfish and even jellyfish. Once the fish have settled in, they provide endless amounts of entertainment and are especially great for kids.

<img style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; float: right; margin-top: 25px; margin-bottom: 25px;" title="Owl Festival I" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/owlfestivalI.jpg"}}" alt="" />Birds

Owls are all the rage right now. They are extremely popular in the fashion world and can be found on clothes, jewelry and some people even use their feathers in their hair (fake of course) as extensions. They are considered some of the wisest birds on the planet.

Looking for a more colorful bird? Then a parrot would be the perfect fit for you. Not only do they come in memorizing colors but they can also talk! Cockatoos are a close cousin of the Parrot and can speak up to 75 words!

Although most birds can not speak, they sure can sing and keep a melody! Each type of bird has a very distinct sound which is how some people identify them when they can not physically see them. Next time you're out walking or sitting in a park, unplug from your iPod or mp3 player and enjoy the song of the birds.

Bonjour mes amis!

Here at InGallery we love the beautiful city of Paris. From the Eiffel Tower to all the fashion, here are four reasons why we can't get enough of this amazing city:

1. The Eiffel Tower

<img style="float: right; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; margin-top: -90px; margin-bottom: -90px;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/eiffel.jpg"}}" alt="" />

If you ever get the chance to visit Paris...take it! Visit all the attractions that you can and make the Eiffel Tower a top priority on your list. It's considered one of the most recognizable and famous landmarks in the entire world. It was created by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel for the Centennial Exposition of 1889 and has since been a structure that people flock to when they visit.

If you're not afraid of heights, be sure to make your way to the observation deck. Whether it's the morning, afternoon or night, there is no bad time to go up and see the view. On a clear day, you're able to see up to 50 miles away! While you're up there, look for the cities other famous landmark - the Arc de Triomphe.

Pictured: Memories of Paris, Studio Voltaire, Ingallery.com. $44.99

<img style="float: left; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; margin-top: -50px; margin-bottom: -50px;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/pariscafe.jpg"}}" alt="" width="200" />2. Food

Paris has scrumptious food. All you have to do is walk down the street and into one of the many street lined cafe's or restaurants. Paris even boasts some of the most renowned chefs on the planet. Have a glass of wine, an ever popular croissant or if you're really brave, try the Escargot or Pate de Foie Gras. Also, don't pass up Paris pastries. They are a little taste of sugary heaven.

Pictured: Cafe Terrace at Night, Vincent Van Gogh, Ingallery.com. $189.99

<img style="float: right; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; margin-top: -50px; margin-bottom: -50px;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/puppies.jpg"}}" alt="" width="200" />3. Small Dogs!

People and small dogs go hand in hand with Paris. Not only are they impossibly adorable, but they're also the perfect size for city dwellers. Just like any large city, apartments run small, but for these tiny dogs, their homes must seem like mansions! Also, how cute is it when your pet is small enough to fit in your purse!

Pictured: Faux Paw, Jennifer Garant, Ingallery.com. $54.99

<img style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; float: left; margin-top: -50px; margin-bottom: -50px;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/dresses.jpg"}}" alt="" width="200" />4. Fashion

Paris is called the fashion capitol of the world for a reason. Along with New York, London and Milan, these four cities hold the worlds latest trends, designers, and stores in the fashion industry. It's common to see high profile stores such as Prada, Chanel, Christian Dior and Tiffany while walking down the street. Paris also has some of the best upscale boutiques that usually only sell couture designs. If you're looking for a one of a kind gown or dress, you simply must visit Paris.

Sailing

There's nothing calmer than watching sail boats float by on a nice day. During the Olympics though, this calm pastime event turns into an incredibly intense competition. The boats are fast and the sailors are even faster. Watch as they hang off the sides of their vessels to steer the boat quickly around an obstacle or even around each other. In addition to the obstacle race, there are also team and individual races as well. The event continues for the next two weeks.

<img src="{{media url="wysiwyg/blog/sailing.jpg"}}" alt="" />

Pictured: Windcatcher Two, Karen Dupre, ingallery.com. $199.99

Soccer

GOALLLLLLLLLLL! Another popular sport to watch during the Olympics is soccer, or football as most countries call it. This event takes place over the entire length of the Olympic games with the medal ceremony on August 11th. You'll be on the edge of your seat while watching the best players in the world run, kick, block, guard and shoot their way to the top.

Decorate Your Child's Bedroom With Wall Art: 5 Things That Make Kids Go Gaga

The 5 Things That Make Kids Go Gaga

He wants a Transformers-covered spaceship, or a dinosaur’s lair. She wants a homage to Barbie that would make Hello Kitty cringe. You want them to sleep through the night in their own beds, and maybe play quietly in the morning so you can grab a few extra winks. Decorating your kids rooms is never easy, and the choices are endless. After picking out the sheets, the rugs, and the perfect shade of paint, it’s time for the fun part: Wall art! Wall decals, chalkboard paint and glow-in-the-dark are just some ways to spice up a kids room, but with canvas wall hangings, there are no landlords to worry about and better yet – when you go, they come with you. It’s not just about family portraits and times tables posters now – find some adorable artwork that’ll get your little prince or princess to bed on time – and keep them there (and out of your bed!) all night long. We've put together the top 5 themes for kids' bedroom decorating 101:

<img style="float: left;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/rock-a-bye-baby_2.JPG"}}" alt="rockabye-baby" />1. Nursery Rhymes

You might not remember the words to the nursery rhymes of old, but there are plenty of posters to remind you as you rock the little ones to sleep. Welcome the cow who jumped over the moon with a range of Hey Diddle Diddle posters… or revisit the old classic with Rock-A-Bye Baby. If you’re feeling a little more energetic, there’s nothing like Row Your Boat – until someone falls overboard, and it’s back to bed!

Pictured: Rock A Bye Baby, Sydney Wright, InGallery.com. $84.99

2. Puppies, Kitties and the Cows Say Moo

<img style="float: right;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/bathtime-dog.JPG"}}" alt="bathtime-dog" />If no amount of begging for a puppy is enough to get Daddy over his allergies, there’s a solution in Ed Heck’s brilliant collection of cartoon dogs – including one which will have you ready for bathtime, anytime. Looking for a puppy your little girl can dress up in butterfly wings, or a knit hat? Try these paintings for size. Ranging from the cute to the artistic, everyone gets a puppy – or elephant, horse, sheep, or lovely little duckling.

Pictured: Bathtime, Ed Heck, InGallery.com, $54.99.

3. Ballerinas and Pretty Things

<img style="float: left;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/pink-ballerina.JPG"}}" alt="pink-ballerina" />If it's sparkly and it’s pink, she wants it, and she wants it now. Fit out a room for your little princess with all the girlie joy you can find, from fairy wings to princess dresses, and of course: Ballerinas. Whether it’s a gorgeous fluffy tu-tu or a sparkly pair of slippers, she’ll be dreaming the nights away as her future in Swan Lake. She may be the next Pavlova yet!

Pictured: Pink Ballerina, Alex Burnett, InGallery.com, $54.99.

4. Things that Go Vroom: Choo Choo!

<img style="float: left;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/truck.JPG"}}" alt="" />Planes, trains, busses and boats: If it makes loud noises and gets you from one place to another, it’s guaranteed little boys will love it. But there’s no going past a TRUCK for real thrills. Decorate your little man-chamber with a tribute to his favorite gas guzzler, and watch with pride as your little boy becomes the king of motorheads! Vroom, Vroom, Choo, choo, beep, beep and finally – good night!

Whether it’s froggie themed or a little more sophisticated, a few letters on the wall isn’t just decorative – it’s educational, too!

Presenting Jennifer Garant: InGallery Artist Spotlight

Welcome to INGALLERY ARTIST SPOTLIGHT, our latest feature on the InGallery.com blog. Subscribe to keep up with the latest news in the art world, cool tips and ideas for hanging your paintings or decorating your home, and exclusive artist interviews!

<img style="float: right;" title="Jennifer Garant" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/jennifergarant.jpg"}}" alt="Jennifer Garant" />This week, we are proud to present our inaugural artist profile, a bestselling painter on InGallery.com: the lovely Jennifer Garant! From martini glasses to French chef paintings, Jennifer’s work has livened up kitchens and living rooms all over the world. We caught up with her to ask some questions about her work, her inspirations and most importantly, the fantastic paintings we get to hang in our homes:

Q: What is your background as an artist? Have you always known it’s what you wanted to be?

Jennifer Garant: I started drawing and painting when I was very young. I remember getting into big trouble as a kid for drawing with crayons inside my closet on the walls, and on the hardwood floors under the living room sofas.

I’m basically a self-taught artist, although I did attend two art schools for just a couple semesters. Even though I was discouraged to try and be an artist, I knew that’s what I wanted to be.

In my early twenties, I worked at jobs that I knew I wouldn’t want to do long term, just so I could focus on becoming an artist. So I worked eight hours a day at a lathe mill pulling lathe of the saw and stacking them. I also got a job peeling potatoes for a French fry wholesaler all day long; then I would paint late at night. I worked very hard on my art and feel proud and lucky to be able to paint full-time.

<img style="float: left;" src="{{media url="wysiwyg/sheepchef.JPG"}}" alt="Sheep Chef by Jennifer Garant" width="165" height="212" /> Q: How do you draw inspiration for your collection? Your works are centered on themes of food, wine and chefs – how did this happen and what do you love about it?

Jennifer Garant: I've spent a lot of time for many years in New Orleans and I get inspired by the city, the chefs, the food and most of all the spirit of the people there.

Q: What’s your favorite time and place to paint?

Jennifer Garant: I love waking up before dawn and painting in my studio because there are no distractions, no phones ringing, etc. That's when I do my best painting.

Q: Who is your inspiration as an artist?

Jennifer Garant: It is a very long list, but Modigliani is at the top.

Q: What do you love about knowing people all over the world have your art hanging in their homes?

Jennifer Garant: I do enjoy hearing from friends and family saying, “Hey I saw your chefs at this restaurant in Paris!” or other places around the world. I'm just grateful to hear that people enjoy my art and I know my whimsical paintings bring smiles to people’s faces.

Jennifer’s quirky French chefs, Italian street scenes and rich still-life food paintings are available now at InGallery.com. Hang a glass of wine or cup of steaming coffee in your kitchen; get inspired by a cafe scene in Paris; or smile at the hilarious antics of a French chef or sommelier.

Art for Health

Many might associate art as nothing more than fine art paintings and canvas art paintings. In reality, art does much more than beautify a space. All types of art forms, like painting, music, dancing and writing, can heal and make a profound impact on the mind. While often the value of an arts education is popular in discourses over a child's development, the benefits of art therapy can extend a lifetime.

Painting and Writing

Many who participate in art related activities report increased levels of happiness. The act of immersing oneself in an artistic endeavor is a great source of pride for many. It creates an opportunity to forget stresses, anxieties and tensions and instead focus on the task at hand. It stimulates the creative and problem-solving areas of the brain.

Taking part in art activities is also an opportunity to release pent-up feelings. Many suffering from mental strains use art as a tool to express, in new and less threatening ways, what they are feeling. The mere act of pondering a painting can have relaxation and mental health benefits.

For instance, focusing on paintings, fine art paintings, or canvas art paintings, have been shown to inspire deep, almost meditative, states that occur in the conscious and subconscious levels of the brain. Writing has the same therapeutic effect. Both forms can also evoke forgotten feelings. Observing and participating in art activities can also lead to greater critical-thinking.

Dance

Fortunately, these feelings of accomplishment and joy are not limited to an individual self. Interactive art forms, chiefly dance, can impact entire communities. Dancing can promote community, or community-building, cooperation and facilitate dialogue. Many community nonprofit organizations are using dance to relay sensitive subject matter; e.g. immigration, racism and identity. No one should discount the power of physical touch either. In a hyper-digital world, many are craving human touch and tactile interaction.

Music

The vibration and energy in music create states of relaxation and healing. Buddhists incorporate the ubiquitous “om” sound in relaxation exercises, like meditation.

Music has been linked to assisting patients with Alzheimer's recall their memory. Research studies have concluded that classical music can ease anxieties; many teachers resort to playing classical music before a test.

The Low-Down on Art as Investment

With the real estate market still in flux and a stock market as unpredictable as British weather, investors are looking for new places to build their nest eggs. One potential investment to consider is fine art. In this article, we’ll examine the pros and cons of art investment, private funds for art investing and the future of fine art investing.

Pros and Cons of Art Investment

When you win at art investment, you often win big. A single fine art canvas by a well-known master can fetch hundreds of millions of dollars. Just last month, Edvard Munch’s famous The Scream sold for nearly $120 million. In recent years, works by other well-known 20th century artists have all sold for more than $100 million.

Auction prices for fine art seem to generally be on the rise. In 2010, The Wall Street Journal reported that the art market was heating up with a record-breaking $106.5 million sale of Picasso’s Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust. One year later, the Royal Family of Qatar bought Paul Cezanne’s The Card Players for more than $250 million.

However, art investment is never a sure bet. During the height of the recession, for example, the value of fine art overall dropped by 35 percent. Taxes on fine art sales also tend to be high; expect to pay a 28 percent capital-gains tax when you sell the art you invested in, which is almost double the capital-gains rate for other investments.

Private Funds for Art Investing

The private funds for art investing are not that different from hedge funds. Private investors place a minimum investment in the fund, which usually starts around $100,000, in exchange for a slice of the profit earned from the buying and selling of fine art. In addition to the minimum investment, investors will also pay the fine art private fund a management fee and a performance fee.

The Future of Art Investment

One interesting perspective on the future of art investing comes from Michael Findlay, a long-time art dealer. Findlay’s recently published book, The Value of Art: Money, Power, Beauty provides a less-than-favorable critique of the art business. He argues that there is no major art movement of the 21st century -- no Cubism or Impressionism or Minimalism -- in part because of another “ism”: commercialism. His concern is that the over-emphasis on art as investment has had the side-effect of producing artists who will be unable to stand the test of time.

Those interested in long-term art investment should take his argument into consideration, but they would be well-advised to take a more balanced point of view than Findlay’s alarmist attitude. As long you remember that the art market is as volatile and unpredictable as any other investment market, art investment can be a lucrative and enjoyable investment opportunity.

When Art Goes Missing

The recent report of a $19 million art heist got us thinking about what happens to art when it goes missing. According to the CS monitor, less than 15 percent of all artwork stolen is ever recovered.

Although the artworks missing rank in the millions, a mere $5,000 reward is being offered for their return. The FBI is asking people to report theft if they see any of the following items or paintings “adorning the walls of a friend’s home.”

A few of the stolen works include:

The silkscreen used by Andy Warhol to create the “Flowers” silkscreen print
Portrait of Arnold Weinstein
Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Map of the world
Larry Rivers’ “Janet or No Name Portrait”
Larry Rivers’ “Study for O’Hara Painting”
An untitled portrait (believed to be self portrait of Rene Ricard)
Francisco Clemente’s “West”
Terry Winters’ “Untitled” etching and drypoint on paper

In the case of the great Paris art heist from “La Musee D’art Moderne” in 2010, stolen artworks included Matisse, Braques, Leger, Modigliani and Picasso paintings. While the man in the mask who stole these out of the museum sounds like a snapshot out of a film, it gets crazier.

Perhaps the most absurd case of art theft we have heard of was the removal of a painting of the Madonna by Leonardo Da Vinci from a museum in the UK in 2003. Thieves hassled the guard and threw the painting out the window, telling observers that they were police and they were practicing. The painting was later recovered from a law firm in Scotland.

So the next time you see a gorgeous, too-good-to-be-true replica of your favorite work of art (with the exception of our fine quality canvases) check again. You might be gazing at stolen goods. *Although, we won’t say anything if you want to tell your friends that your canvas is the real thing!

Instagram Art Shows and the Future of Fine Art

Artists and photographers have been trying to capture the essence of New York City for decades. Attracting professionals and aspiring amateurs from all around the world, New York’s galleries and museums have always been a welcome place for innovative forms of expression.

These days, with even casual amateur photographers and artists having access to professional-looking effects with applications like Instagram, the line between fine art and casual photo snapping is beginning to blur.

The First Instagram Art Show

Exhibit A in the redefinition of professional photography is the recent New York City photography exhibition composed entirely of Instagram images. The Instagram Art show received over 6,000 entries from professionals and amateurs alike. The featured images chosen for the Instagram show were principally scenes of the New York environment -- skyscrapers, stairwells, bridges and the like -- made whimsical and poignant with Instagram filters. In the end, the show curated 41 images from professional photographers; not without opening a new realm of possibilities to mobile art enthusiasts. Could the future of photographic fine art include anyone with an iPhone?

The Future of Instagram Art Shows

Some die-hard Instagram users worried that the Facebook acquisition of the company might lead to a degeneration of the Instagram community and the end to pursuing Instagram as a fine art outlet. However, what Instagrammers are beginning to realize is that Facebook is simply making their hobby even more mainstream than ever.

Imagine a future of spontaneous InstaArt shows, announced via Twitter or social media, and held with nothing more than a projector and a screen in Central Park. Alternatively, imagine Instagram images appearing on the walls of coffee shops and restaurants as Instagram artists begin looking for audiences for their work. Indeed, far from destroying the spirit of Instagram, the acquisition by Facebook could very well spell the beginning of even more art shows and InstaGalleries.

The Instagram Wing

At this point, the sky is the limit for Instagram and mobile art. Who knows, could we even read of the opening of an Instagram wing in an art museum one day? Although it may seem preposterous now, what is considered art has changed dramatically over the last hundred years; the next hundred years will bring even more interesting changes as the digital revolution inevitably seeps into the world of high-brow art.

Are Private Museums of the Super Rich Hiding Art?

While public museums are the traditional guardians of artistic treasures, a new trend is private art museums. Today, Asia, above all China, is spearheading this trend. Asia's new élite is flaunting its wealth on art pieces that sell for millions of dollars. While this conspicuous consumption appears to be an ostentatious display of wealth and power, the trend is more complex.

Social Good

Some of the wealthy claim that it is a philanthropic gesture. According to the Hurun Report, philanthropy could be a strong motivator. For instance, one hundred of China's top philanthropists donated a combined total of $1.6 billion to philanthropic efforts. Others claim that collecting art does cultural good. An art connoisseur learns and teaches social grooming and refinement.

Patriotism

Another reason for the increase in the trend is linked to patriotism. For instance, many of the Chinese art collectors buy works by Chinese artists, and they buy works that comment on Chinese culture. For instance, Fox News interviewed Budi Tek, an affluent Indonesian-Chinese entrepreneur who plans on creating his own private museum. Tek had recently purchased "Chapter of a New Century Birth of the People's Republic of China II," a surrealist painting by Zhang Xiaogang, for $6.7 million. Tek claimed that his lavish purchases are “'an extension of love to society.'”

Colonialism

If patriotism plays a role in the increased popularity of the trend, then issues surrounding colonialism could also play a role. Perhaps Asia's new affluent are only mimicking former European and American colonial powerhouses. In Europe, Henry Tate housed his private collection of Victorian art. In America, the Rockefeller family helped develop the Museum of Modern Art, in New York. Wealthy Asians might be positioning themselves as the next powerhouse in the globalized world. Scholar Craig Clunas' chapter, “China in Britain: The imperial collections" describes the colonial dynamics between Britain and China. According to Clunas, “The 'British Museum' could never be restricted to British things, for to do so would set a limit to the reach of British power.” Interestingly, the public and private discourse of museums is a dynamic that goes back to colonial times. Perhaps this new wave in the privatization of museums, in Asia in particular, is a symbolic reclamation and celebration of identity. It could also be a way to protect cultural and national identity.

Access for Everyone

Hamid Dabashi from Al Jazeera offers a new perspective to the public and private dichotomy. Dabashi highlights how artists like Diego Rivera, a Mexican painter, rejected the idea of private and public museums alike. Rivera's work was originally designed to sit in public space. The artwork that Rivera created was meant to be seen and experienced by everyday people, in their quotidian experience; the essence of which cannot be experienced in any type of museum.

Gallery for One

A way that individuals can experience the true essence of artwork is to develop a private gallery in their home. Gallery art does not need to cost millions of dollars. Gallery art is as simple as purchasing a fine art canvas and canvas prints. A fine art canvas captures the luxurious feeling of canvases hanging on museum walls. Canvas prints are cost-conscious alternatives that can brighten any space. Someone developing a private gallery can experiment with price, styles and sizes to create a space that is truly unique. A private gallery showcases a pure passion for artwork. Politics, ego, vanity, conspicuous consumption, patriotism and colonialism do not matter in an individual's private gallery.

As Edvard Munch’s painting “TheScream” was primed for private sale at Sotheby’s on May 2, it brought to mind so many questions. Who will buy it? How much will they purchase it for? Where do these collectors come from and how did they amass their wealth? Will they benevolently loan it to a museum or gallery, or keep it to themselves?

After shipping the painting to buyers around the world, in an attempt to rouse their tastes, it returned to Sotheby’s in New York for perhaps its final appearance in the public domain.

Like a canvas stretched onto a frame, Munch’s character is poised with hands sliding down its face, a stark opposition to the subdued images of impressionist masters of his time.

Although it is one of four scream paintings created by Munch, it was the first to ever come to auction. After a 15 minute bidding war, The Scream emerged “winner” of the highest art sale in history at $120 million, but the purchaser, who bid via telephone, remains unknown.

This was also Sotheby’s highest grossing impressionist and modernist auction, bringing in some $330 million from 76 lots.
